Q: What do you do in the Guild Wars community and where can everyone find you?
A: I make videos for my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/Eexa where I chronicle my adventures in Tyria. I'm also a member of the Aurora Glade PVE Fun group, where we organise large scale community events like The King and Queen's Horrorween and The Winter Blunderland on EU servers. We're also looking to expand our events to the NA servers in the not so distant future, so keep your eyes open :)Q: Did you hear of/play GW1 and what was your experiences/ you're impressions? What is your earliest memory if so?
A: I was a Guild Wars 1 player from the very beginning and it happened to be the first game that I played online which wasn't a first person shooter. As someone who hadn't played anything in a world so rich before I was completely blown away. My earliest memory of GW1 was from my first day playing. My friend and I bought the game together and while adventuring in pre-searing he discovered he could take off his armour and place it on the ground. Of course, I promptly stole it and didn't return it to him for at least a few hours. That's when I realised I had found something special.
Q: What have you enjoyed about GW2 and what has kept you playing?
A: I love the world of Tyria and the gameplay, but honestly, it's the community that's kept me playing for so long. I have made so many friends in Guild Wars 2, maybe even more than I did playing GW1. Being able to interact with the community with my videos and in the events we organise keeps me coming back for more and the continued content that is added to the game is always welcomed.
Q: What has been your favourite memory of GW2?
A: My favourite memory has to be the SAB riots of 2014 (at least I think it was 2014). I love the Super Adventure Box as much as the next Asura, and I'm quite happy to wait for it. What I loved about the whole riot/protest thing was that Arenanet was trying to create a living world for the players to enjoy, and simply by not adding something back into the game they did just that. There were people literally protesting outside the Super Adventure Box for days. I don't think it gets much more 'living' than people spending their own time to show support for something the care about so much in such an active and entertaining way.
Q: How do you feel about the upcoming expansion HoT?
A: I am absolutely thrilled about the expansion. I just want to jump in now (and glide, of course). From what I've seen and read so far I like the direction they are taking the game, both with the gameplay (gliders, improved enemy mechanics etc) and with the lore and storyline. I'm especially excited to see what kind of impact the Sylvari revelation at the end of season 2 will have upon not just the NPC characters, but also the players attitudes towards Sylvari characters and Sylvari players. Also, did I mention Gliders?
Q: What class do you main/ What is your least liked class and why?
A: I main Mesmer. Something about killing my enemies with hilariously bright pink magic really cheers me up :D My least favourite classes would have to be thief and ranger. I could never get the hang of playing a thief and the pet mechanics of the ranger always annoy me. Now, replace the pets with golems, I might reconsider.
Q: What is your preferred game mode/Have you been drawn to any other modes?
A: I play PVE predominantly, simply because I prefer cooperative gameplay over competitive. The same is true for any game I play. That's not to say I won't jump into WvW on occasion or throw down a few Llama finishers in PvP, it's just that I can only play it in small doses before becoming increasingly frustrated by my lack of skill.
Q: What has drawn you to your game mode of choice?
A: PVE is where the lore and story is and for me that's what I play for. I like enjoying the world around me and the interactions I have with the other players along the way.
Q: Do you have a favourite memory of this game mode?
A: My favourite memories from PVE would have to include the community events that I've helped organise. Bringing fun to so many players is a joy. Other than that the Marionette fight was great since it involved so much community cooperation to figure out and beat.
Q: What is your opinion on the lore of the game?
A: The lore is unique and endless. What I mean by that is that it is crafted in such a way that even when you don't know a particular character or NPC's full story, you can still believe that they have one. The races are unique in a way that sets them apart from a lot of fantasy stories and games and it allows us as players to easily build our own story around and within it.
Q: Is there a place, theme or person you would want new content to include?
A: As unpopular as it may seem, I am actually a fan of underwater content, though I believe it could be implemented a lot better (separate traits would be nice). I would love to see an underwater expansion in the future. Obviously not 100% underwater, but the thought of seeing some great Quaggan cities excites me. As for people, I would be interested to see if Livia still plays a part in Tyria somewhere.
Q: What do you speculate as the next possible race?
A: The next race would likely be Tengu in my opinion, but with the recent introduction of the Itzel in the HoT betas, I could see them (or a similarly built frog people) being a very strong contender.
Q: How did you get started with the community, what inspired you to get involved?
A: I was seeing a lot of videos showing the game play, discussing the lore, showing bugs, fast dungeon times, but very little of it was from the actual character's point of view, so I wanted to share that. In a game which is focused on your character, I thought it might be cool to offer the character's opinion and view on everything. It finally all came together for me during the Queen's gauntlet. I tried to type excelsior in chat to a player who had greeted me and accidentally typed “Eexcelsior!” I decided the name fit for a video series given my character's name. Once I put a voice to the name, it kind of all fell into place.
Q: Why do you think GW2 has such a great community around it?
A: I think it has a great community around it because it actively promotes cooperative play instead of making it something that will hinder you. When everyone works together, everyone benefits and I think the positive community spirit is something the majority of players are very proud of.
Q: Why did you choose your particular format [Youtube/Twitch/blogs ect] ?
A: I chose Youtube because it allowed me to put the voice to my character's words in a way that a blog post wouldn't have been able to. I wanted to really get Eexa's character across to the audience and what better way than to have a little sass talk and showing off with some complicated, superior Asuran dialogue :)
Q: What content do you create? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: My main focus is my primary series “Eexcelsior!” which covers most of the living story content releases and a few of the more interesting things that happen within Tyria (Like the SAB riots or the DDoS attacks a while ago). I've also tried my hand at a few parody songs, which have had a lot of positive feedback which I am very happy about (Especially since Eexa doesn't have the greatest voice. They didn't teach her singing at the College of Dynamics). Going forward I'll be continuing Eexcelsior! into Heart of Thorns and hopefully collaborating with other content creators on some of the more interesting projects like parody songs.
Q: How much does the audience and community influence your production/creations?
A: The audience and community are extremely influential and a great source of inspiration. I love hearing feedback and criticism so I can continue to improve and the messages of support you send are truly heart-warming. I also love hearing the ideas that fans whisper or mail my way. I may not always notice the message until later, but I always read every single one :)
Q: Do you have any advice for people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
A: Jump right in. If you enjoy making videos, do it. Even if people criticize your work, learn from what they say and don't be afraid to ask for opinions. It also helps if you have a great group of guildies and friends to help you out when you need it. I wouldn't have made half of my stuff without help.
Q: Who else would you recommend in the GW2 community?
A: I would have to recommend Corvus at https://www.youtube.com/user/CorvusPlays
He composes some wonderful music inspired by the world of Tyria and is also part of the popular “Guild Gab” series.
Q: Who is your favourite Youtuber/streamer [non gw2]?
A: I watch quite a lot of the Yogscast stuff. They pretty much have something for everyone :)Q: If you could ask another creator or a GW2 developer/community moderator a question, who would it be and what would you ask them?
A: I'm not sure I really have anything to ask them, but I would like to thank each and every one of them, whether I know them personally or not, they help make this community great. As for the developers, a huge thanks to them too for all the hard work they put in and the commitment they've shown us over the years. I would like my Mini Llama, SAL, to have a yellow cape with a purple E on it though. That's within the Devs' power, right? :) Eexcelsior! :D
