Q: What do you do in the Guild Wars community and where can everyone find you?
A: I'm Reyana, you can find me in World vs. World or @Reyana_ATac, www.twitch.tv/Reyana_ATac or my graphic design website http://www.reyana.org/
Q: Did you/are you playing other MMO's? What attracted you to them?
A: I played quite a few MMOs prior to GW2. My favorite one other than GW2 was Lineage 2 which was also an NCSoft game. The thing that attracted me to L2 was the graphics. I am a graphic designer and a huge critic for high quality work. The gameplay wasn’t all that great as it wasn’t entirely supportive of PvP, however, the graphics completely made up for it.
Q: When did you start playing GW2 and what got you involved in the game itself?
A: I began playing GW2 at beta and the graphics, gameplay, and community as a whole got me involved within it to last a full span of nearly 3 years now.
Q: What have you enjoyed about GW2 and what has kept you playing?
A: I have enjoyed being a leader of the World vs. World community in Tier 1. It’s been an amazing experience in watching a server become as united as Blackgate is in order to overcome enemy servers in large scale PvP.
Q: What has been your favourite memory of GW2?
A: My favorite memory would have to be witnessing how united Blackgate became in Season 2 WvW when the two enemy servers (Tarnished Coast and Jade Quarry) coordniated a 2vs1 attack on us in order to keep us from winning. It was a vicious tactic that was frowned upon by a majority of people and created clashes and turmoil all while Blackgate became stronger and a tighter-knit community. We became unbreakable with the unity that was created by staying together while the two other servers suffered in keeping us out of become champions. I couldn’t be prouder of being apart of something like that.
Q: How do you feel about the upcoming expansion HoT?
A: I feel very excited yet a bit anxious as to how positive the changes will be and if the new shake up to the World vs. World map will be. If it’s too much of a cultural shock to the server and tier, the tides may shift and the lower servers may once again start gaining momentum as they all did during the first few months of the game’s launch.
Q: What class do you main/ What is your least liked class and why?
A: My main class is warrior. I enjoy it because I have been a melee class in every MMO and game I have played due to loving the feeling I get when I am up in someone’s face to kill them.
Q: What is your preferred game mode/Have you been drawn to any other modes?
A: My preferred game mode would have to be World vs. World. I have tried both PvE and sPvP (only when playing Stronghold at ArenaNet) and didn’t care much for those aspects. I love being apart of something that causes a server to succeed. That sense of accomplishment of working with a huge force and community and coming out on top is the most rewarding feeling in any video game.
Q: What has drawn you to your game mode of choice?
A: The killing aspect of an actual player rather than an NPC has been a huge driving point for me. Along with helping change the tides of an entire server in the tears is large scale accomplishment which continues to feed my desire to play.
Q: Has it changed since you started playing? If so, how?
A: It hasn’t changed much since the start of the game. Tiny changes have been made with the removal of the “capture the flag” orbs, addition of bloodlust nodes, and points given by stomp, etc etc… These changes aren’t relevant enough to really shake up the meta of World vs. World though.
Q: Why did you choose to make content from this game mode?
A: People love seeing combat. What better way of displaying combat along with something I already love doing in creating content over large scale combat. It was already my niche of the game so streaming and creating content over World vs. World just happened naturally.
Q: How important is this game mode to the overall game? Do you think GW2 could be as successful without it?
A: This game mode is the main style and core of communities in Guild Wars 2. Removing it would make the game just as mediocre as any other MMO out there. Nothing of creation has ever been so worthy of attention as GW2 for the select reason of this large scale combat along with 2 other game modes. I would not play the game if it was not for World vs. World.
Q: Do you have a favourite memory of this game mode?
A: My favorite memory of this game mode would have to be the one I mentioned previously. I have many funny stories but none of them memorable to type about. World vs. World is more about pride than anything else. Pride in having people that work together to succeed and pride in staying united through one of the most difficult moments in the history of any Season of WvW.
Q: What is your opinion on the lore of the game?
A: I believe the lore in Guild Wars 2 has much more appreciation than any other game with the exception of perhaps Final Fantasy. I am not one for lore in games. I come for the bloodthirst and combat the game has to offer.
Q: Is there a place, theme or person you would want new content to include?
A: A new World vs. World map has been promised and will be delivered. Other than that I do not have any requirements off the top of my head.
Q: What do you speculate as the next possible race?
A: New race may possibly be one of the aquatic culture. I see tree people, I humans, giants, and tiny yoda type creatures so the next thing on the list is to cover water species I suppose.
Q: What crafting discipline did you level up first and why?
A: None. I do not like crafting, I do not like dailies, I do not like guild missions, sPvP, or dungeons. All I want to do is kill people and win. That’s it.
Q: What is your favourite PvE content [Jumping Puzzles, Guild Missions, World Bosses, dungeons ect] and why?
A: If I had to choose a favorite I would have to say Guild Missions because they are the only type of PvE that benefits an entire guild (include WvW guilds) in getting better armor to last longer alive against enemies.
Q: Do you play Dungeons, if so, what one is your favourite and what do you think to the Dungeon clearing meta?
A: I do not usually do dungeons, but if there is nothing going on in World vs. World I will usually start with Ascalonian Catacombs or Citadel of Flame.
Q: Do you do Guild Missions, if so, which one is your favourite and why?
A: I do on the rare occasion if my guild or a friend is doing them because there’s a small benefit to them for World vs. World, and it can sometimes be a change of pace. .
Q: What do you think of the current meta (i.e. pirateship meta)?
A: I strongly dislike this meta due to the fact that it is the player version of siege creeping and also makes it useless for melee players to try and engage since it’s all done from a distance. The meta was created (in my opinion) for people who were too afraid if being wiped first pass and seem like the type to bring a gun to a sword fight.
Q: What is your favourite WvW map and why?
A: My favorite map would have to be Eternal Battlegrounds. Reason being this map was constructed beautifully with the lowest rank (3rd place) color being red having the benefit in defending its structures and home keep. The green side having a harder time to defend making it mean more to keep it in order to stay in first place. Everything is closer together than the borderland maps which makes it a challenge to defend and a benefit to offend.
Q: Do you duel [if you do so], what has drawn you to it, and why did you choose WvW dueling over a PvP Arena?
A: I do not duel in sPvP but I have been apart of a few Guild vs. Guild matches in the Obsidian Sanctum arena. I find this meta to be adequate only because it shows the skill level of a specific guild. What I dislike about this meta is that it is not supported by ArenaNet in a leaderboard for 15vs15 GvGs. I chose WvW dueling over the PvP arena because I feel more rewarded in working for a server rather than my own personal bragging rights.
Q: What build do you use and could you tell me why you enjoy it so much?
A: I enjoy a warrior shouts (zerg) build with warbanner because it helps me keep my team mates alive longer. I am the type to stop in a fight and rez people in downstate so running this build helps.
Do you do a lot of theory-crafting, if so, how has this affected the way you play?
A: I do zero theorycrafting and wait until someone who loves it to create something worthy of running. Once it’s created, tested, and ready, I will stop, apply it, and resume slaughtering people in World vs. World.
Q: What do you think to the up-coming changes to WvW with HoT and how will this impact the WvW community?
A: I think it can have both a positive and a negative aspect on WvW due to the fact that I disagree with some changes taking place. Having the ability to waypoint enemy keeps was one of the funnest things to do in WvW. Being apart of a community that helped walk yaks into an enemy’s garrison and upgrading it to waypoint was so much fun. Opposed, having your own garrison or keep waypointed made you fight harder to resist that from happening. It was community effort to create or prevent it and that being taken away seems like a step towards casualizing the entire game mode. The new HoT map being release is something I cannot comment on until I get the chance to play it first hand and see what it’s like before I can pass judgement.
Q: How do you feel about the new PvP mode to be introduced in HoT?
A: The new game mode of PvP should be really interesting to witness as I played Stronghold and it was a lot of fun. Having the ability to hire doorbreakers, archers, carry supply makes it seem almost like small scale WvW.
Q: How did you get started with the community, what inspired you to get involved?
A: I knew that I had to ability to help something to greatness. That drive alone is what got me into the community because I knew what I was capable of. None of it would have been possible without a team that felt the same way I did or without a community as united and resilient as Blackgate.
Q: Why do you think GW2 has such a great community around it?
A: The community of Guild Wars 2 is great because it is so friendly. I think the one thing that really pushes and promotes friendliness and teamwork is having the aspect of shared loot and rewards throughout PvE. A huge percentage of GW2 players are solely PvE based which is where I think a lot of positivity originates from. The developers of the game are also way more engaging with their player base than any other game I have ever witnessed.
Q: What changes (if at all) have you seen in the community since you started playing GW2?
A: Changes that I have seen are not always positive. For instance I see WvW guilds thirsty for a new Season and new map, start cross repping on other servers. Sometimes even enemy servers such as what is currently occurring in Tier 1. This is not always positive as it completely destroys all server loyalty and can damage existing morale. A positive change I have seen is more interaction and support from Guild Wars 2 towards their TwitchTV community and content creators.
Q: Why did you choose your particular format [Youtube/Twitch/blogs ect] ?
A: I chose to start streaming on TwitchTV because I wanted to promote my graphic design in order to earn money. I was told by almost every single person not to stream Guild Wars 2 because it was never going to get me any viewers. I went against all the advice I received and was pleasantly surprised by how blessed I have been since becoming a streamer for GW2.
Q: What content do you create? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: I create mainly highlights of GW2 in action of World vs. World or sometimes the occasional dungeon either for laughs or for exciting combat. I also create graphics to promote the game, the seasons, and the server.
Q: How much does the audience and community influence your production/creations?
A: The community and my audience requires me to have fun no matter what I am doing. I am fortunate to have such caring people as my regulars and always want what’s best for me. This encourages me to laugh and therefore create funny highlights they can watch when I am not streaming.
Q: Do you have any advice for people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
A: Never give up.
Q: Do you play anything else which you make content for? If so what type of content? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: Only thing I concentrate on is Guild Wars 2 and graphic design. Nothing other than that is planned for the future that I can tell so far.
Q: What type of games do you play for your own enjoyment?
A: I enjoyed Skyrim quite a bit before the launch of Guild Wars 2, but stopped playing since.
Q: Who else would you recommend in the GW2 community?
A: Stay away from toxic behavior and do what makes you happy in the game. Keep your skin thick and face smiling. Remember it is just a game.
Q: Who is your favourite Youtuber/streamer [non gw2]?
A: Donnaberry and Aurora_Peachy as they are my two best friends and wonderful girls. As for non-GW2 Youtubers and streamers, I cannot think of any.
Q: If you could ask another creator or a GW2 developer/community moderator a question, who would it be and what would you ask them?
A: Why would you take away the ability to waypoint an enemy keep when it is the essence of competition?
