Q: What do you do in the Guild Wars community and where can everyone find you?
A: My name is Mike and make content for my YouTube channel 'WubdoR'. I don't have a specific theme on my channel, although videos to do with roleplay have a special place in my heart because there don't seem to be too many YouTube content creators that represent that part of the game. My channel link is http://www.YouTube.com/wubdor
Q: Did you hear of/play GW1 and what was your experiences/ you're impressions? What is your earliest memory if so?
A: I never played Guild Wars 1 properly because I was a hardcore raider in WoW at the time. I had class mates who played it and sort of kept me in the loop somewhat, but I never played past the trial myself.
Q: Did you/are you playing other MMO's?
A: I'm currently in the Korean beta for the upcoming MMO Black Desert Online. It's looking very promising and I cover it on the side on my channel every now and then. I have an inactive WoW account as well, playing on and off. With the lack of current content within my interest, I've decided to keep that account locked for now.
Q: What attracted you to them?
A: Hah, that dates back to the days of Runescape in 2002 or thereabouts. I had no idea about the concept of MMOs and just thought it was a fun game you had to play every day at least a little. The character progression was fun, as well as the open world. When WoW launched I wanted to give MMOs another try and I stayed ever since.
Q: When did you start playing GW2 and what got you involved in the game itself?
A: I started playing in the betas a few months before launch. I played TERA at the time and knew I'd leave the game within the first month. My guildies there convinced me to pre-order to get into the beta with them.
Q: What have you enjoyed about GW2 and what has kept you playing?
A: There are so many good things about GW2 that I'm afraid this would be novel length if I wanted to mention them all. But roleplaying is definitely what kept me around. I suppose you could say it's the community. Without a community there's no roleplay.
Q: What has been your favourite memory of GW2?
A: Hands down giving my girlfriend the Bifrost as a surprise and recording her reaction. That video blew up and kind of kick started my channel.
Q: How do you feel about the upcoming expansion HoT?
A: I'm both excited and concerned. I trust Arenanet to do this well, but there are questions about RP and how it will impact us. Arenanet have shown that we're not very important to them and so I'm scared of changes to the game that will affect us negatively. Nothing so far that hints towards it though!
Q: What class do you main/ What is your least liked class and why?
A: My main is a Thief, but I'm shifting towards Ranger a little more now. The squishiness of the thief was fine for a while, but I notice I'm getting more and more frustrated. My least favourite class? It's a tie between mesmer and guardian. They just don't interest me at all. (The elite specs are looking sweet though.)
Q: What is your preferred game mode/Have you been drawn to any other modes?
A: Does RP count? Then that. Otherwise PvE. I'm not at all interested in PvP or WvW and never do it unless I'm with friends or drunk. Or both.
Q: What has drawn you to your game mode of choice?
A: I've always been a PvE guy. I prefer coop over competitive all together and used to be a hardcore raider in WoW, like I said. If we're taking RP. Well, I love writing, I love reading, I love gaming. RP is a mix of that. Add a little improv acting to the mix and you have RP. I didn't start RP until years into my MMO 'career' though. Not until I was a little older and more into writing.
Q: Has it changed since you started playing? If so, how?
A: RP, yes. I joined the RP scene much later. But PvE has always been my thing.
Q: Why did you choose to make content from this game mode?
A: When you look at YouTube content creators for GW2, none of them represent the RP scene. I'd love to be 'that guy' like others are lore or pvp specialists.
Q: How important is this game mode to the overall game? Do you think GW2 could be as successful without it?
A: I'm not so sure I'd be so involved in the entire game if I hadn't been a roleplayer. So the game would still be successful, but not to me. PvE wise I think the game wouldn't have survived the first month without it.
Q: Do you have a favourite memory of this game mode?
A: Oh boy. RP is like a second life. I suppose the wedding of my character is something I won't just forget, but picking a favourite is far too difficult.
Q: What is your opinion on the lore of the game?
A: I think the lore is solid, but I feel there are some strange holes in it that only seem there to please the people (male/female sylvari for example make 0 sense, and the explanation for it is kind of weak).
Q: Is there a place, theme or person you would want new content to include?
A: I'm a Caithe fanboy, so I'm pretty pleased already!
Q: What do you speculate as the next possible race?
A: Tengu is the easy choice, right? Well, I don't care much about them. Largos, please!
Q: What crafting discipline did you level up first and why?
A: Cooking, because it was easy!
Q: What is your favourite PvE content [Jumping Puzzles, Guild Missions, World Bosses, dungeons ect] and why?
A: I LOVE jumping puzzles. Mostly because I used to be a wall jumper in WoW to get to places I wasn't supposed to get to.
Q: Do you play Dungeons, if so, what one is your favourite and what do you think to the Dungeon clearing meta?
A: I think dungeons are a mess and pretty much only do them to help out friends.
Q: Do you do Guild Missions, if so, which one is your favourite and why?
A: Yep! No favourite one there. Just enjoying the time spent with my RP guild as ourselves instead of our characters.
Q: How did you get started with the community, what inspired you to get involved?
A: I struggled to get my channel off the ground for years, but when I saw how welcoming the community was when I posted my legendary giveaway video, I decided to shift my focus on GW2 as a main thing on my channel. It all went uphill from there.
Q: Why do you think GW2 has such a great community around it?
A: I think it's because the game is designed around it. You can't kill steal, running into other players is never annoying, everybody can ress. The first players became friendly, and so everybody who joins later automatically picks up on that and does the same. That attracts a certain audience as well.
Q: Could Arenanet do more to curate and develop its community?
A: RP support. Oh god, RP support.
Q: What changes (if at all) have you seen in the community since you started playing GW2?
A: It's grown, for starters! People seem to become more and more friendly. But I suppose that's because I don't do PUGs or PvP as well. ;)
Q: Why did you choose your particular format [Youtube/Twitch/blogs ect] ?
A: I already had a channel that didn't get off the ground. It seems GW2 was a good decision and so I've stuck to it.
Q: What content do you create? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: I'm currently a few months abroad so for now nothing is really happening. The second I see my channel suffer from my absence, however, I'm flying home. This is a long term project I'm not willing to give up for a temporary job. I try to focus on all aspects of the game and not limit myself too much, but like I said, RP has a special place in my heart.
Q: How much does the audience and community influence your production/creations?
A: I'll gladly take any suggestions from my audience because I don't always have ideas. I don't let them decide what I do, but I'm very thankful for any tips and recommendations.
Q: Do you have any advice for people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
A: It's so cliché to say "don't give up". But it's true. I failed for literally years and only now I'm finally growing. Besides that, get a good microphone, record with Nvidia Shadowplay if you have an Nvidia GPU, and don't use fraps.
Q: Do you play anything else which you make content for? If so what type of content? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: I also do Black Desert Online and will probably make videos about the new classes as soon as I get the chance.
Occasionally I do a video on a random game with one of my best friends (Keir, whom I met on GW2 in RP), or my girlfriend Lucy (whom I also met in RP on GW2).
Q: What type of games do you play for your own enjoyment?
A: I love RPGs. (How good is The Witcher 3? I'm mindblown how amazing that game is.) I also like action adventure and the occasional shooter.
Q: Who else would you recommend in the GW2 community?
A: Pfffff. Tough one. I watch Woodenpotatoes and Mattvisual the most, but everybody knows them of course. I don't think I have some secret knowledge about unknown GW2 content creators. I rely on the subreddit for that!
Q: Who is your favourite Youtuber/streamer [non GW2]?
A: Woodysgamertag has a special place for me, even though he's not very active anymore. Totalbiscuit is probably my number one at the moment, as well as Kyle Landry, a pianist who does many cool covers.
Q: If you could ask another creator or a GW2 developer/community moderator a question, who would it be and what would you ask them?
A: I'd ask any developer with actual influence why roleplayers are so neglected and what it would take to acknowledge us and cater to us.
