Q:
What do you do in the Guild Wars community and where can everyone find you?
A: I’m Hollts, a GW2 content creator and build maker/designer (mainly, but not just for, necromancer). Others can find me fightin’ in PvP, gankin’/roamin’ in WvW, void jumpin’ in PvE or clearing my inventory in HotM (screw you PvP rewards!). I’m mainly a YouTuber (@ www.youtube.com/HolltsGaming) and post videos there about once a week. I used to stream and might again in the future (@ www.twitch.tv/hollts). If anyone wants to find me in-game, my account name is Holl.3109 (all my characters’ name start with Holl-, so I’m pretty easy to find :p).

Q:
Did you/are you playing other MMO's? What attracted you to them?
A: I don’t and haven’t (seriously) played any other MMO’s! *gasp* Yup, Guild Wars 2 introduced me to the MMO world and keeps me pretty busy. I enjoy it so much that I don’t feel like I need anything else. I like MMO’s because of the people, fighting/trading/talking to others make those games so much more enjoyable!

Q:
When did you start playing GW2 and what got you involved in the game itself?
A: The standard answer here is ‘Since the first beta and I haven’t stopped playing since bla bla bla’ but that doesn’t count for me. I originally found GW2 when I was browsing YouTube (when I didn’t have my own channel) and came upon Angry Joe’s video about GW2. He was fanboy-ing it pretty hard so I was skeptical at first, but the footage he showed really convinced me. When I found out that GW2 was also having a Black Friday sale (in 2013), and was now ~20 bucks instead of 40 I just HAD to get it. Since then I’ve been pretty active in the community and didn’t take any real breaks :)

Q:
What have you enjoyed about GW2 and what has kept you playing?
A: GW2 keeps me entertained because of its combat system, it just really clicks with me. The way every profession has its own different play style is just very unique and fun too. Other than that it’s just the community, I’ve made some great friends along the way :D

Q:
What has been your favorite memory of GW2?
A: When I think of my favorite GW2 experiences, one particular memory comes to mind… *Story telling mode activated* A long time ago in an eternal battlegrounds far, far away… k this is too cheesy ._. *Story telling mode deactivated* But for real - I was solo roaming in EB when I met this scrub called ‘Wavin Thief’. Me, being the super ultra social person that I am, invited him to a party because solo roaming isn’t particularly fun… Our first conversation went like this:

Wavin Thief: Yo :D
Me: HELLO
Me: caps lol
(I know because I was
recording at the time) After that amazing conversation, 3 people engaged us, we
won the 3v2, he invited me to his roaming guild and since then we are really
good friends and still roam/PvP together to this day! It’s a horribly cheesy
story but when I think of GW2 I think of that :p
Q: What class do you main/ What is your least liked class and why?
A: I main necromancer. It’s often considered
one of the worst/least used classes in PvP, PvE and WvW roaming but I really
don’t care. I like a challenge and this class provides that. It can still be
very potent when played right however, and I think I’m playing it fairly well
;) Power necro, condi necro, cele necro and well-o-mancer are just some of the
build I like playing on it!
Which class don’t I like? I consider myself a
multi-classer and play all to some extent, but if I had to pick one it would be
ele… why? TOO MANY BUTTONNSSS!1!!!!1!! I’m a lazy person and ele just doesn’t
fit with me.
Q:
What is your preferred game mode/Have you been drawn to any other modes?
A: I originally started off as a hardcore PvPer in 2014. I was doing ranked after ranked match and started to make a couple of friends who I played with from time to time. Here I learned how each class fit into the game and what skills to watch out for. Buuuuuuutttt PvP gets boring after a while, the same maps over and over tire you out. WvW roaming and 1v1 servers got my attention and I then spent quite some time there. At the moment I divide my time equally between PvP, WvW roaming and 1v1 servers.

Q:
What has drawn you to your game mode of choice?
A: These game modes all have to do with fighting other players, and that’s the part I enjoy most of GW2. Improving my skill level, fighting others and fighting with others have always been very enjoyable for me.

Q:
Why did you choose to make content from this game mode?
A: I chose it because I liked it! A very cliché answer I know, but it’s 100% true.

Q:
What do you speculate as the next possible race?
Quaggans! Well ok, that is very unlikely but I sure do hope that they implant it one time :p

Q:
What is your favourite PvE content [Jumping Puzzles, Guild Missions, World
Bosses, dungeons ect] and why?
A: Really the only things I do in PvE are void jumping (breaking out of maps) and jumping puzzles, so those 2 are my favorite! (even though I really really really suck at jumping puzzles lol) Void jumping allow for spectacular views and jumping puzzles are just fun to do with some friends/guildies when you are tired of killing people ;)

Q:
What is your favorite WvW map and why?
A: My favorite WvW maps are the borderlands. It feels more compact than EB and it has many fun spots to juke/kite/fear people off cliffs etc. But usually its quite empty, so I kinda have to go to EB if I want some good fights.

Q: Do
you duel [if you do so], what has drawn you to it, and why did you choose WvW
dueling over a PvP Arena?
A: I duel both in WvW and PvP. Dueling is just generally fun because you improve your gameplay a lot by doing it. Luck, skill and some clutch plays/combo’s decide who the winner is, so it’s never really certain who will come out on top. I do prefer dueling in Obsidian Sanctum (WvW), rather than a 1v1 server in PvP because you have more build customization there and it’s usually more

Q:
What build do you use and could you tell me why you enjoy it so much?
A: I play a lot of builds on a lot of classes! I’m an avid multi-classer and don’t stick to one particular build because (for me) it gets boring very quickly. I swap builds/professions every now and then for some variety and to keep myself entertained.

Q: Do
you do a lot of theory-crafting, if so, how has this affected the way you play?
A: I do… to some degree. I (usually) only make builds for the necromancer profession because I know pretty well how it works/plays and because it’s my main. But I don’t do this particularly much, once I get a good working build I will play it for a while and be content with it. Since the June 23rd patch I’ve made multiple power necro builds, all using different traitlines.

Q:
What do you enjoy so much about the profession you play as most and why?
A: The necromancer is a profession unlike the others. It struggles to be on the level of (most) other classes and is not very well represented in the community. But that doesn’t mean it sucks balls! It can be a very decent class but just has some big issues at the moment. *cough*pingpongball*cough* The way deathshroud works and the amount of conditions I have to my disposal as a necromancer just really appeal to me. Together with some really cool tricks that you can do with it (WurmStomp, LichStomp, Spectral Walk Jukez, etc) just make this class my favorite!

Q:
What build do you run for that class?
A: Anything really, but usually power-orientated. I especially like playing Curses Power Necro, a power/burst necromancer with still a lot of condi’s :p

Q:
What is your favourite/least favourite PvP map and why?
A: Unlike most other PvP players, my favorite map is Spirit Watch. The map looks fricking amazing and it’s pretty big, which I like. I also happen to know some Esports/MLG kiting spots there which have saved my life a lot ^_^

I don’t really have a least favorite
map, but if I had to choose it would be skyhammer (of course). I somehow always
fuck up at dodging that damn hammer!
Q: How
do you feel about the new PvP mode to be introduced in HoT?
A: I don’t like it. The amount of NPC’s in Stronghold make it feel like a rip off of WvW. The PvP element that you would expect in a PvP map has been severely underrepresented IMO. Sure it will be fun for a while, but I think it will get tiring very quickly :/

Q:
How did you get started with the community, what inspired you to get involved?
A: To be honest, I don’t really remember
exactly. One day I just downloaded Bandicam and said ‘screw it, let’s make a
vid.’ The end result was horrible (gameplay and editing wise), but it was
pretty fun :P I got some good feedback so I continued and somehow ended up
where I am today.
Q:
Why do you think GW2 has such a great community around it?
A: Because players don’t take away from each other. Everyone gets loot, exp, gold and materials from doing things throughout the world so you are happy to see and play with others. This promotes team play and makes it easier to find potential friends.

Q:
What content do you create? Anything of note coming up soon?
A: I make lots of different content, from montages to funny videos, all about GW2. I will be continually updating builds from before the June 23rd patch, so that will be keeping me busy for a while.

Q: Do
you have any advice for people wanting to follow in your footsteps?
A: My advice would be to expect as little as possible. It takes a lot of time, input and work to get a ‘successful’ and ‘well known’ GW2 YouTube channel going if you’re starting from 0. I’ve seen numerous people give up on YouTube early on because they didn’t get the amount of subs/views they expected. Just keep on working, do some trial and error, see what people like and dislike and build upon that :)

Q:
What type of games do you play for your own enjoyment?
A: I love any games that have to do with online play, strategy and exploring. Kingdom Rush, Pokémon, Assassins Creed, and of course GW2 all fit into those categories.

Q:
Who else would you recommend in the GW2 community?
A: There are too many >.< But if I had to choose I’d go for Wooden Potatoes and Sammpo, their content are fun to watch/listen to and I actual learned quite a lot from them!

Q:
Who is your favourite youtuber/streamer [non gw2]?
A: I’m easily intrigued and love getting to know things, so channels like All-time Conspiracies, Thoughty2, Dark5, Buzzfeed and Top10s I really enjoy.

Q: If
you could ask another creator or a GW2 developer/community moderator a
question, who would it be and what would you ask them?
A: I would ask Sammpo why he is obsessed with Colin Johanson, and I’d ask Colin Johanson why he has such a dank smile ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
